Driving Theory Test

Before you can book your practical driving test, you must first pass a theory test.

You can book your theory test online, by phone on 0300 200 1122 or your Class Manoeuvres Instructor can take care of it for you.

In order to book a theory test, you will need:

• a valid driving license
• a valid debit or credit card for payment

The standard fee for the theory test is £31.00

When you sit the test, you will need to take both parts of your valid licence with you to the test centre. The photocard and the paper counterpart. If you still have an old fashioned paper licence you need to take this and also your passport. You will not be allowed to take the test without these documents.

The test is a computerised test taken in 2 parts, one after the other.

The first part is 50 multiple choice questions using a touch screen. You are allowed 57 minutes to take the test. You need to get 43 out of 50 to pass.

The second part is Hazard Perception test. You will be presented with 14 video clips of everyday road scenes. In each clip there will be a developing hazard and in 1 clip there will be 2 developing hazards. You will need to respond to these hazards by clicking the computer mouse. Each hazard is worth 5 points and the earlier you respond the higher your score. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

Your instructor will include theory test topics while you are having your driving lessons.
